Serene Contemporary Garden, Fulham

The brief was to create a fairly contemporary garden design which melded contemporary planting design with a cottage planting twist. The garden needed to act as a natural extension of the recently renovated, contemporary styled, Victorian house.
The sidewalls were very low, an awkward slope existed and more privacy was needed without losing the all-important light. Planting was to be an inspired mix of contemporary and cottage styles whilst employing a calm, clean but striking palette of green, white and purples. A space to hide away from the outside world and entertain!

I introduced more light into the garden with generous slabs of silver slate, which tied the whole space together, whilst reflecting light. An aubergine wall replaced a mirrored back wall and added depth to the garden whilst acting as a chic foil for the green foliage in front. Steel tensioned wires were incorporated for climbers to venture-up and offer a pseudo floral wallpaper effect, especially when backlit in the evening. The knarled uplit false acacia tree becomes a statuesque beacon, in the evening light and the heavenly scented planting ensures drinks and dinner parties are a treat.
